Live interviewing: Science up close and personal
The ability to conduct a live interview that informs, entertains, and gets you "up close and personal" with a scientist is a skill that all science communicators — journalists, freelancers, and PIOs — should have as part of their repertoire. Live in an auditorium, online as a webcast or podcast, or recorded live before an audience for broadcast, direct interviews get people past the incomprehensible jargon, mind-boggling technology, and often overwhelming nature of science by sharing a personal interaction between two human beings. In this workshop, a panel of recognized experts on live interviewing who will provide tips, tricks, and insights (such as "Creating an interview that feels unstaged and truly conversational" and "Crafting follow-up questions on the spot") for a basic skill set that participants can take home with them.
