Welcome reception

Catch up with old friends and make new connections at the ScienceWriters2018 Welcome Reception on Friday, October 12. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet faculty and staff from GW as well as representatives from the event’s sponsor, Amgen. Beverages and hors d'oeuvres will be served.

The reception will be held in GW’s Science and Engineering Hall (SEH). Opened in 2015, this eight-story, 500,000-square foot facility is comprised of 14 floors: eight floors above grade and six floors below. The massive undertaking required elaborate planning and delicate maneuvering by engineers, architects and construction crews. The imaging suite and nanofabrication lab, for instance, are engineered to dampen vibrations from the Metro. Instruments that use electrons for imaging and etching nanoscale devices are specially shielded from the magnetic fields produced by the subway’s high-voltage rails.  Visit the SEH website to learn more about the facility and the researchers it serves.
