Is disability something to be cured? As science writers, we talk to a lot of researchers and doctors who think so. But many people with disabilities disagree. Disability is a part of their/our identities and how they/we experience being human, and ableist bias in science writing results in systemic prejudice and discrimination. In this session, we will learn how to notice and fight against ableism in our work and see concrete examples from panelists about what works and what doesn't. Come learn what inspiration porn and other disability tropes are, and leave with tools to ensure you write stories that respect disabled people's experiences. Social media hashtag: #NASWDisability
