[Update, 7 October 2015: Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research has had to cancel this tour. We apologize to registered tour participants for the inconvenience.]
The Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research is a global network of seven laboratories headquartered in Cambridge, Mass. As the central research wing of Novartis International AG — the Swiss multinational that leads the world in pharmaceutical sales — NIBR promotes a philosophy of clinical thinking in drug discovery and development, with an emphasis on finding scientifically tractable ways to meet unmet medical needs. The Institutes’ physician-scientists, led by NIBR President Mark Fishman, formerly chief of cardiology at Massachusetts General Hospital, are pursuing therapeutics in the areas of oncology (including immuno-oncology), regenerative medicine, hearing and vision loss, autoimmune disorders, cardiovascular and musculoskeletal disorders, and neuroscience (including both psychopharmacology and treatments for neurodegenerative diseases). Tour participants will visit key laboratories at NIBR’s Cambridge headquarters, adjacent to the MIT campus, and meet with laboratory staff and scientists.
