Journalists and science writers are always told to develop their online presence. Build a website, write a blog, get on Facebook and maintain a Twitter feed. But there’s more to cultivating a social media profile than signing up for all the platforms. It is one thing to incorporate a first person perspective into a narrative feature, but walking the line between infusing your social media streams with personality and getting too personal is a day-to-day balancing act. It may be considered a dirty word by some, but the online world doesn’t just demand engagement, it demands branding. Social media hashtag: #Bwordsciwri
