Harvard Museums of Science & Culture tour

The Harvard Museums of Science & Culture is a consortium of seven world-renowned museums exploring the biological, geological, and cultural diversity of our planet.

• The Harvard Museum of Natural History, with its famous 42-foot Kronosaurus skeleton and its Blaschka Glass Flowers
• The Collection of Historical Scientific Instruments, which contains over 20,000 objects dating from about 1400 to the present.
• The Peabody Museum of Archaeology & Ethnology, one of the world’s oldest archaeological and ethnographic museums
• The Harvard Semitic Museum, focused on the archaeology of the ancient Near East
• The Museum of Comparative Zoology, the Mineralogical & Geological Museum and the Harvard University Herbaria, whose public exhibitions and programs are administered by the Harvard Museum of Natural History, which together safeguard collections of some 28 million specimens.

Participants in this tour will first meet with the HMSC’s Director of Exhibitions, Jan Sacco, in the newest Harvard Museum of Natural History exhibition, "Islands: Evolving in Isolation," to learn about the public exhibition development process. Participants will then choose between a "behind the scenes" visit to one of the collections at the Harvard’s Museum of Comparative Zoology or a tour of the some of the highlights within the nearby Collection of Historical Scientific Instruments.

A bus will meet the tour group at the Hyatt Regency Cambridge promptly at 9:00 am for the 15-minute ride to the Harvard campus. Alternatively, participants registered for the tour can meet the group at the Harvard Museum of Natural History at 26 Oxford St., at 9:15 am.
