What does it mean to be an ethical journalist in 2015, when so many writers (staff, freelance, and PIOs) are juggling multiple types of assignments to make their careers work? How do we ensure integrity and standards in science writing?

This plenary session will start with two long-time freelancers squaring off, debate-style, on whether taking government or corporate assignments necessarily tarnishes a journalist's reputation. After comments from a roundtable of panelists, the audience will get involved using a real-time polling system and questions from the floor. Expect a lively, provocative, even feisty discussion of today's thorniest ethical quandaries.
