Insectary field trip

The Orchard Road Insectary seeks to better understand the transmission of vector-borne diseases through research. The facility houses a range of mosquito species responsible for transmitting malaria parasites and viruses, such as dengue and Zika. We work on a range of issues including how environmental factors like climate change can influence transmission and the development of novel control tools like work on new insecticide strategies and Wolbachia through to detailed mechanistic studies aimed at understanding the interaction between mosquitoes and pathogens they transmit.

Visitors to this facility will hear a presentation on faculty research on a range of mosquito colonies, incubators and behavioral studies, along with a tour of the facilities housing the insects.

This trip is sponsored by the Penn State Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences.
