Gary Taubes is a contributing correspondent for the journal Science and a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Independent Investigator in Health Policy Research at the University of California at Berkeley School of Public Health. He is the author of Why We Get Fat and What to Do About It (Knopf 2010) and Good Calories, Bad Calories: Challenging the Conventional Wisdom on Diet, Weight Control and Disease (Knopf 2007).

Taubes has won numerous awards for his journalism including the International Health Reporting Award from the Pan American Health Organization and the National Association of Science Writers Science in Society Journalism Award three times, the only print journalist to do so. He has been covering controversies in science and medicine since 1985 – including prions, cold fusion, fraud in science, and virtually everything having to do with nutrition.
