Science writing has “adequately and sometimes brilliantly focused on climate change studies built from meteorological models or technological monitoring of weather shifts,” says Gary Paul Nabhan. But he’s concerned that science writers have devoted less attention to observations from field ecologists and indigenous farmers, fishers, hunters and foragers. And yet, traditional ecological knowledge and natural history, or "observational ecology," can offer both “compelling and healing narratives that may change the nature of the climate change debate.” Nabhan will discuss his collaborations with Seri Indian fishers and foragers in Mexico and Chile, and with farmers throughout North America, to illustrate how these "voices from the field" can potentially change the social, cultural and political dynamics around climate change.For more information
